BASTARD CHOOSE MY IDENTITY
Choose My Identity
What happens when unrelated communities fuse into a global village, when cultures mix, traditions dissolve, and something new rises from the amalgam? In search of cultural identity and cultural bastards, the authors embark on an extreme expedition: in a mere 21 days, this team of designers visited the major hot spots of globalization, flying to Mexico City, L.A., Tokyo, Hong Kong, Bangkok, and Dubai before returning to Frankfurt. They conducted hundreds of meetings with artists, musicians, designers and authors to compile a comprehensive understanding of the personal interpretation of a manifold of different impressions. Globalization is not necessarily negative, and it seems that we are entering an exciting new era where the enriched exchange of media, styles, and thought has become of utmost importance. The disciplines of photography, illustration, graphic design, and typography have merged into a tightly woven corpus that expresses cultures, everyday life, movement, tradition and identity (collective and personal). This cultural bastardization is exposed through the work of famous contributors in the form of a printed book, CD of a type library designed by internationally renown typographers, and music soundtrack.
