Goodbye, Xu Hu!
Two novellas by the president of the Shanghai Writing Association address the question of how we must live with the past: in Goodbye, Xu Hu!, a chance meeting between two lovers, separated for twenty years, causes a man to wonder if the flame of their past love can be rekindled now. And in No Explanation Is Necessary, on the surface Lao Wei appeared to be an ordinary hospital janitor, but after a chance sighting at a subway station a writer learns that this simple janitor is much more than he appears to be.
Zhao Changtian is a member of the National Committee of the Writers' Association of China, vice chairman of the Writers' Association of Shanghai, vice president of the Shanghai Cultural Development Foundation, president of the Shanghai Writing Association, chief editor of Mengya Magazine and a professor at East China Normal University. He joined the Writers' Association of Shanghai in 1985.
