Legacies
Generations Playing for the Fighting Irish
An exuberant celebration of sports and family spanning the history of the Fighting Irish.
“Notre Dame Family” is a common phrase amongst Golden Domers, a reflection of the university's close-knit environment and community ideals. But some take the expression more literally, as evidenced by the multi-generational athletic success stories Fighting Irish fans have witnessed throughout history.
In Legacies, author John Heisler shares priceless tales of families who have suited up for Notre Dame on the gridiron, hardwood, softball diamond, and beyond—from well known father and son duos like the Golics to Kamie Page bringing lessons from her dad Alan to the soccer field decades after his legendary football career.
Going back to the days of Knute Rockne and marching all the way to the present, this lively collection of stories is a testament to the bonds forged by Domers across eras and the timeless Notre Dame traditions that resonate both on and off the playing field.
John Heisler spent more than 40 years as a member of the University of Notre Dame athletics staff, including 14 years as senior associate athletics director in South Bend. A foremost authority on Fighting Irish history, Heisler has written several books about Notre Dame football, including 100 Things Notre Dame Fans Should Know & Do Before They Die and If These Walls Could Talk: Notre Dame Fighting Irish, co-written with Reggie Brooks.
