Sam wants to be the best swimmer in the whole world, but finds the sea is too cold. Turning his attention to building sandcastles, Sam also finds problems with the dry sand. Will he ever be the best at anything? With the encouragement of his Mother, Sam soon discovers that being the best takes perseverance and some creative thinking. This delightful tale demonstrates that with a little determination and positivity we can all achieve our goals.
Nell Smith lives in Melbourne, Australia with her partner and three children. She earned a degree in Fine Arts at Queensland University of Technology before working for the Literacy and Young Peoples Service at the State Library of Queensland, where her love for children’s picture books grew. Nell completed the Writing Picture Books course with the Australian Writer’s Centre in 2020. She works part time licensing musicals for schools and community groups around Australia and New Zealand.
Patrizia Manfroi graduated in Scenic Design at the Academy of Fine Arts of Brera, Milan and attended the Illustration and Comic School at Sforzesco Castle, Italy. In 2012, Patrizia won the Esposito Foundation Prize in the Scarpetta D’Oro contest and was selected for the Italian Illustrators Annual in 2013 and 2014. Inspired by fairy tales, Patrizia enjoys expressing the distinctive features of childhood. She currently lives in Milan, Italy.
