The Flight of Birds is a collection of fictional and ficto-critical stories, presenting encounters with a range of birds. Embedded in the fictional encounters is a philosophical and theoretical investigation into the ways humans engage with birds. The stories tell and re-tell existing myths about birds in order to uncover their symbolic functions in contemporary Australian culture. More importantly, these stories consider the impact these myths have on actual birds.
